A Message from Dean Audus:

Ken Audus

The mission of the School of Pharmacy is to provide exceptional opportunities for professional, graduate, and postgraduate students; and professional continuing education for pharmacists. Through exemplary curricula and programs, the School encourages the advancement of pharmaceutical care so as to enhance health. The school maintains a leadership role in developing major advanced technologies, and drug therapy related research inclusive of pharmaceutical, clinical, and administrative sciences for the state, the nation, and the world.

The School of Pharmacy was established in 1885 and consists of four academic departments: Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Pharmacy Practice.

The School has an enrollment of approximately 420 students in its Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program and, 150 students that are practicing pharmacists with a Bachelors degree in Pharmacy are enrolled in a web-based program leading to a non-traditional Pharm.D. degree. The Pharm.D. program at KU is ranked #18 among public programs by U.S. News and World Report.

A vigorous research and graduate training program is conducted by the 60 full- and part-time faculty with external funding of over $17 million annually, 80 postdocs and a graduate enrollment of approximately 120 students seeking Ph.D. degrees in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmacology & Toxicology. Pharmacy Practice has a joint Masters degree/residency program with an enrollment of 6 students. The School is currently ranked #3 among all Schools of Pharmacy in NIH funding and has been within the top five for the past eight years.
